We work towards achieving this by carrying out our own research, supporting our staff in continuous learning and development, and advocating for fertility services to be made part of state-provided healthcare.
We communicate with transparency and truthfulness, empowering you to make informed decisions with complete trust and confidence throughout your fertility journey.
Our team of highly skilled and experienced fertility doctors, nurses, and embryologists offers you unparalleled expertise, utilising cutting-edge technologies and evidence-based practices.
We leave no stone unturned. Our team will work with care and commitment to find the perfect solution for you.
Our experts work together as a unit, sharing their knowledge, skills, and compassion to provide you with tailored, personalised care every step of the way.
We recognise the uniqueness of each individual and their situation. We do our best to create an inclusive and respectful environment in which we can treat you with empathy, dignity, and sensitivity.
Merrion Fertility Clinic was originally founded by doctors from the National Maternity Hospital in Holles Street, Dublin. Today, our patients continue to enjoy the benefits of that association.
Many of our doctors work as Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists at the National Maternity Hospital, meaning you will have access to the expertise of a leading teaching hospital, and one of the largest maternity hospitals in Europe. Sedation provided during your egg collection will be given by a Consultant Anaesthetist from the hospital. As our doctors have public fertility clinics at the hospital, and provide pregnancy care there too, our patients get to enjoy continuity of care in familiar surroundings.
We are Ireland’s only not-for-profit fertility clinic. That means we have no shareholders to satisfy and are under no pressure to provide profits or dividends.
Our not-for-profit standing gives us the independence and the autonomy to always recommend what we believe is in your best interest, and based only on evidence-based treatments and research.
Having said that, we still need to charge commercial prices so that we have more income than expenditure. This gives us the surplus of funds we need to invest in new technologies and carry out research in conjunction with Trinity College, UCD, and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
This also enables us to fund Merrion Fertility Foundation.
Even though public funding is now available for fertility treatment, you might be someone who doesn’t fall within the HSE criteria for acceptance, or who has used up your allocated treatments.
Established in 2011, Merrion Fertility Foundation provides financial assistance to people who require fertility treatment but are unable to afford it. All patients attending fertility clinics at the National Maternity Hospital or Merrion Fertility Clinic are eligible to apply for funding through our grant application process.

Merrion Fertility Foundation is set up as a charity and registered as an unincorporated voluntary association. The Registered Charity Number is 20080112.
From time to time, our Medical Director and other key medical staff are asked to talk to journalists about the many aspects of fertility treatment.
This can include topics from fertility preservation for young oncology patients to government funding for fertility treatment to questions raised by those concerned about their fertility.
Click here for more informationIn June 2024, the Assisted Human Reproduction Bill was signed into law by the President, Michael D Higgins. Though it is now part of the legal framework, the Act will not be “commenced” or come into effect straight away. To work, the AHR Act 2024 requires the establishment of the Assisted Human Reproduction Regulatory Authority. Once this Authority is in place, the other sections of the bill will likely be commenced or made law.
Previous legislation that impacted how fertility treatment is provided in Ireland, The Children and Family Relationships Act (CFRA) 2015 took 5 years to be commenced. We believe the AHR Act will be commenced more quickly and will update you as soon as we have information.
