If you live in the west of Ireland and would like to attend Merrion Fertility Clinic, we can facilitate you to have many of your appointments either online or with our trusted partner, Fertility & Fetal Health (FFH), who are based in Galway City.
We provide a satellite service in Galway for IVF and ICSI cycles, and for any subsequent Frozen Embryo Transfers.
Although you will attend FFH for some of your appointments, your treatment will take place under the care of your Merrion Fertility Clinic Doctor.
We have a long history of working with Fertility & Fetal Health, beginning in 2019. The practice is owned by Dr Nikhil Purandare, who is a very respected Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, with a sub-speciality in fertility. Together, we have co-managed hundreds of fertility treatment cycles over the years.
Initial Investigations
You can have your initial investigations, the ultrasound scan and semen analysis, in Galway. There are also blood tests that need to be carried out, and these can be done with your GP.
Doctor Consultation
After you carry out your investigations, you will be booked for a consultation with a Merrion Fertility Clinic Doctor. You can opt to do this consultation online or, if you would prefer, you can travel to our clinic in Dublin to see the Doctor in-person.
IVF & ICSI Cycles
If the Doctor refers you for an IVF or ICSI treatment cycle, you will be able to have your ultrasound scan appointments in Galway. There are generally about three scans per cycle. There are also some blood tests, which can be carried out in Galway.
Attending the Clinic in Dublin
For an IVF or ICSI cycle, you would need to attend for a pre-treatment appointment which would include:
You would also need to attend for the egg retrieval and the embryo transfer.
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) Cycles
In a FET cycle, you will be able to have your ultrasound scan appointments in Galway. There are generally about two scans per cycle. There may also be some blood tests, which can also be carried out in Galway.
We will call you with your treatment dates and we will send you your medication instructions via our patient portal.
You would only need to attend the Dublin clinic for the embryo transfer.
Pregnancy Testing & Early Scans
These would take place in Galway.
Cancelled or Unsuccessful Treatment Cycles
If your cycle had to be cancelled or did not result in a pregnancy, it is discussed at a weekly multidisciplinary meeting attended by our Doctors, Nurses and Embryologists.
Recommendations are made for the ongoing care of each patient. A review consultation will then be booked so you can discuss your next steps with the Doctor.
Unfortunately, we do not provide a satellite service for IUI or egg freezing.
Also, we can only offer this for private patients. Patients referred through the public fertility hubs for HSE funded treatment cannot avail of the satellite service.
