First Step Fertility Check

First Step Checks

The possibility of a fertility problem?

Our First Step Fertility Check is aimed at people who are concerned about their fertility.

At Merrion Fertility Clinic, we strongly believe in individualised care that is tailored to your particular situation.

It is very normal for a healthy, fertile couple to take up to 12 months to conceive and most fertility specialists would not recommend seeing a doctor sooner than that. In some cases, however, it is recommended that you see a doctor before one year has passed.

Some general guidelines as to when you should seek help are shown below. If you are in doubt, feel free to call us or discuss with your GP/family doctor.

Transvaginal scan to examine the pelvis, checks for cysts, fibroids, polycystic ovaries, endometriosis, polyps, swollen/blocked tubes (hydrosalpinx). Checks antral follicle count to assess ovarian reserve i.e. how many eggs are in the ovaries.

Tests anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels, a measure of  ovarian reserve.

Your individual situation and test results will be discussed. Based on your initial investigations, further tests may be required. We strongly recommend that both partners attend this consultation.
