Please complete our Request Form to collect sperm sample and book a semen analysis. Because this contains guidelines to ensure the most accurate results.
Patients who have an upcoming consultation with a Doctor at the Merrion Fertility Clinic do not have copies of their test results sent to their GP unless requested by the patient.
How do I make an appointment for semen analysis?
We are available from Monday to Friday at 08:10 to 10:00. Please phone Merrion Fertility Clinic on (01) 6635000 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to make an appointment. However, the laboratory works strictly by appointment only. Semen samples must have an appointment.
How much does a semen analysis cost?
The fee for semen analysis is €120 for the first test and €100 for subsequent testing if necessary. For further information please view our full price list for fertility checks and treatments.
Tests requested by a Doctor at the Public OPD clinic at the National Maternity Hospital (Holles Street) are not charged.
Will I receive a copy of my test result?
Merrion Fertility Clinic will not directly give the results or copies of the results to the patient. Hence, it is the referring doctor’s responsibility.
Do I need a referral letter from my GP or referring doctor?
A referral letter is not necessary before making an appointment for your semen analysis. However, you must have a referring doctor that we can send the results to. We will ask for this information when you are booking your appointment.
How long will it take for my results to be sent to my referring doctor?
Results will take within 10 days. Furthermore, please advise us at the time of booking if your doctor requires the results for a specific date.
What are the instructions for semen sample collection?
Your semen sample must be collected in one of the sterile Sarstedt containers provided by Merrion Fertility Clinic. Please do not use other containers such as those available in your GP office or in pharmacies, as they may be toxic to sperm. A private room is available at the clinic to produce your semen sample. If you wish to produce at home, you will need to be able to have your semen sample in the clinic within one hour of producing it. However, those unable to meet this time frame should produce here in the clinic. Your semen sample must be obtained by masturbation into the container.
We recommend all patients to abstain from ejaculation from between 2 and 5 days before your appointment. Consequently, shorter or longer periods of time may lead to misleading results.
For more information, please refer to the Semen Analysis Request Form. You will be asked to fill out and sign this form on the day of your appointment.
Looking for sperm donor information? Currently, there are no sperm banks in Ireland. Merrion Fertility Clinic imports a donor sperm from international sperm banks.
