Dr Cathy Allen graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1995, and went on to train as a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Dublin and Cork. Her interest in Fertility developed during her posts at the Rotunda Hospital where she was involved in several research projects including the maternal and childhood outcomes after fertility treatment. On completing her specialist training, Dr Allen worked at the Oxford Fertility Unit, John Radcliffe Hospital, which is a leading UK unit providing highly specialised fertility techniques.
Dr Allen joined Merrion Fertility in January 2009, and is also a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the National Maternity Hospital. She has complimentary interests in both Fertility and Obstetric care, and has a special interest in pregnancies conceived following fertility treatment. She lectures on medical undergraduate and postgraduate courses on fertility-related topics including Bioethics, and is a member of Irish, British and European Fertility societies. Her current area of research in association with Trinity College has been presented internationally and hopes to result in the development of clinically useful tests for IVF patients.
