Can Chinese Medicine help with Fertility Treatment?
Fertility Clinic and Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Clinic have created a programme which endeavours to help couples to reach their fertility goals.
Chinese Medicine is an ancient therapy with modern effectiveness. It is the only ‘complementary’ system of treatment with an evidence base which clearly shows its effectiveness with fertility treatment.
The programme aims to provide help and support to couples who are about to embark upon treatment, and also during the treatment process.
Complementary Medicine is a term used to describe a range of treatments outside of conventional western medical treatments. Many of these therapies are based on what they will call holistic philosophy i.e. that body, mind and spirit are indivisible. The strength of the complementary medical approach is that it concentrates on increasing those resources, physical and emotional, which are needed for dealing with any issue in a person’s life and on restoring well-being.
Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine can be effective in dealing with fertility issues be they gynaecological or relating to sperm parameters. It can work to stop period pain, optimise ovulation and can increase the likelihood of conception. During fertility treatment, acupuncture can optimise a woman’s response to ovarian stimulation. In men, Chinese medicine can help problems with sperm numbers, shape or morphology, movement or motility and auto-immune problems. Before and during fertility treatment, acupuncture can assist with achieving optimal response to hormonal stimulation, and, post IVF treatment, acupuncture can support implantation after embryo transfer.
Any patients of Merrion Fertility Clinic embarking on a cycle of treatment should consult your fertility doctor/ our nursing team prior to taking any herbal or Chinese medicine.
