Professor Mary Wingfield, MD, FRCOG
Dr Mary Wingfield qualified in medicine at Trinity College Dublin in 1984. She trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Ireland and the UK and quickly developed an interest in fertility. She moved to Melbourne in 1991 where she worked at Monash IVF, one of the largest fertility units in Australia and home to many pioneering IVF doctors and developments. While in Melbourne, she also did research in Endometriosis, leading to an MD degree in 1996.
In 1998 she became a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the National Maternity Hospital, setting up Merrion Fertility Clinic the following year. She was instrumental in establishing the Irish Fertility Society and was a member of the government-appointed Commission on Assisted Human Reproduction. Her current clinical and research interests are subfertility in all its facets, including the development of national frameworks, legislation and endometriosis.
Dr Wingfield was recently appointed Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at UCD. This is in recognition of her role in teaching and research.
